Starting next week and throughout the first weeks of February, the San Bernardino County homebuilding professionals who bring you your American Dream of homeownership will coordinate a historic effort to bring that dream to a local family while the world watches. And you can be a part of it. Over the past few weeks, the Building Industry Association (BIA) Baldy View Chapter recruited home builders, subcontractors and suppliers to participate in the demolition of an old home and construction Because Extreme Makeover: Home Edition which airs on Sundays at 8 p.m. (PST) is one of the most popular shows on television, this program offers a terrific opportunity for San Bernardino County residents to show the world how we as residents and homebuilding professionals care for our community. Because construction of the new home will take place in just seven days - with each day representing what would normally be a month of work in a typical home construction schedule - the effort will call upon all of the expertise BIA members can muster. To bring this project to fruition, all products and labor must be donated and thus far area builders and suppliers have stepped forward to donate their time and materials to make this project a reality, most notably Murphy Construction Company, SC Homes, Inc., Steeno Design Five deserving Inland Empire families are being considered, but only one lucky family will be surprised when Ty Pennington, team leader of the show, and his design team knock on their front door on January 31. That will be followed by a February 2nd through 6th Media Open House. On Saturday, February 7, the new home will be unveiled for the first time. This will be the first time Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has been to Southern California since 2006 and the second time in the Inland Empire. We at the BIA Baldy View Chapter are looking forward to participating in the program and the excitement it will generate among our membership and residents in the region. The Baldy View Chapter, which oversees the San Bernardino County region, is a member of the California Building Industry Association, a statewide trade association representing nearly 6,000 businesses, which include homebuilders, remodelers, subcontractors, architects, engineers, designers, and other industry professionals. While each company donating to this effort has many reasons for being involved in the show and 'the build', the theme of giving back to the community in some way was at the top of all of their minds. "This is a chance as a successful builder to give of what we do, building a home for a deserving family from our family owned business," said Scott Cross, President of SC homes. Tom Murphy of Murphy Construction sounded a similar note, "My family has been blessed by our success in the construction business in good times and now that times are not so good I think it is a great time to give something from our family and our business." The principal designer and architect behind the project Thomas Steeno added, "We could all use some good news and a chance to feel good about ourselves and our community of friends, neighbors and business partners and this was my way of contributing to that good news and good feeling." "This amazing process will accomplish in The members of the BIA have all participated in building hundreds of thousands of homes, but none of them have ever experienced anything like this challenge. Since 1938, the Building Industry Association (BIA), Baldy View Chapter has remained committed to providing Inland Empire families with access to the American Dream of homeownership. Our motto is 'making the American dream come true one family at a time' and if we are to make this dream happen we will need the generous support of our members and the community at large.
